A
great-grandfather has just celebrated his 109th birthday on friday at
George Hythe House care home in Leicester. His name is George Higgs
and he says the secret to a long life is to not worry about anything.
He
was just seven years old when World War I broke out, and was only 32
by the time World War II came around.
The
dad-of-one, who has two great-grandsons who live in America, said: "I
don't feel so bad.
"At
109 I didn't expect to feel this good.
"The
secret to a long life is not to worry about anything. Just get on
with it."
His
wife Stella Fawcett, 92 helped celebrate the big day and say : "I've
been with George for 15 years, I'm his toy girl.
"I
think he's wonderful and I wouldn't swap him for the world."
George
celebrated his 109th birthday last week with a cake, balloons and
party. He was born on New Year's Day in 1907 when King Edward VII was
still on the throne.
George
worked as a manager at an engineering company in Loughborough,
Leicestershire, after World War Two before retiring in 1973. He lived
with his wife Millie in Coventry, and later moved to Mountsorrel,
Leicestershire. His spouse passed away in 1993.
